“The reality is we never had exclusionary behavior. Our core values and who we are has always been inclusive. It’s always been diverse from our offerings to who we employ and work with. It’s always been at our very core, this is who we are.” – Jim Robinson, (5:32)
“We included people that certainly were not leaders when we drafted them into the program, and we did that openly. We said, ‘We want you because we can help. We can grow. We can expand. And we can change lives.’ And that’s from inclusion.” – Jim Robinson, (13:06)
“That’s ProFM. That’s what we do. I look at it as the bridge between the undergraduate degree and the actual working world. So you have the undergraduate degree, but then how do we actually deliver a solution when we get out to the facilities?” – Randy Olson, (12:08)
“You have to master following. Before you can be a leader, you’re following at a mastery’s level. And if you follow really well, you’re going to be able to line up and start doing the leadership thing.” – Jim Robinson, (29:56)

It’s critical that businesses are intentional about inclusivity because it leads to diversity. Although inclusivity and diversity are interconnected concepts, they are not synonymous. Inclusion ensures everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute and influence every aspect of the workplace. Diversity is the representation of different individuals within the workplace.
Diversity can refer to a multitude of things, including gender, race, ethnicity, religion, knowledge, skills, experience, ideas, and more. Ideally, all diversities are represented within companies because that creates a workplace that showcases an assortment of different thought processes and multitasking potentials. The more variety expressed on a team, the more opportunities become available.

Inclusive leadership stands to benefit both the leaders and the company. It’s advantageous for leaders because it diversifies the skills, knowledge, and experience they have to offer. And it’s a perk for the company because most inclusive leaders encourage the freedom of expression in the workplace. This results in employees feeling validated, which improves overall productivity, innovation, and collaboration.
“When you serve at a high level, you’re served at a high level. When you give something, you get it. That’s the only way it happens. And when you start serving at a high level, you can’t outrun the level of serving you’re going to receive. It’s a reciprocal thing in a natural, organic way.” – Jim Robinson, (17:48)
The great thing about inclusive attributes is that they can be defined, measured, assessed, coached, and developed. Meaning companies don’t have to stress about initially hiring leaders with inclusive characteristics. Leaders with naturally good qualities can be hired and then advance their leadership capabilities as the company itself advances.
