“It’s perception. What you project out is what you’re going to get back. And if you [have consistently great performance] and you are going for all top-tier clients, they’re really going to become top-tier clients because of your perception and how you’re going to serve them at that level.” – Jim Robinson, (8:13)
“Strategy is really coming up with action items to accomplish [a] goal or whatever that achievement needs to be…If you want to change people to raise their grit, you have to have positive reinforcement.” – Jim Robinson, (9:19)

The Importance of Persistence and Resilience
When building a business, there is arguably no attribute more critical to success than persistence, resilience, and grit. The unfortunate truth is that one in five businesses fail in the first year, and nearly half of businesses fail in the first five years. You will undoubtedly face challenges when owning and running a business, but your success relies on how you respond to this adversity. Do you fold? Or do you have what it takes to learn from your experiences and move forward with a positive attitude?

One of Jim’s biggest keys to resiliency is staying positive. When you can look at the situation for what it truly is rather than how you feel in the moment, you are more likely to find a silver lining and bounce back.

Instilling Persistence and Resilience in Your Team
When introducing persistence and grit into your company culture, it’s imperative that you lead by example. Your words can only go so far, but when your team sees you keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity, they’ll begin to follow in your footsteps.
As you notice team members exhibiting resilience, you must reward them and reinforce the behavior. Whether it’s with a note, a financial incentive, or a public acknowledgment, your team will respond to the praise and continue growing.
