Get New Tools to Prevent Food borne Illness Outbreaks

We’re promoting best practices throughout National Food Safety Month to help restaurants understand and combat food borne illness.

“Food safety and security are top priorities for America’s 1 million restaurants,” says Sherman Brown, senior vice president of the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe food safety certification and training program.

This year’s campaign, “Notorious Virus,” will focus on the leading causes of rhinovirus and hepatitis A. Throughout September, we’ll provide tips and tools on detection and prevention. The campaign also emphasizes the importance of proper hand washing techniques and cleaning and sanitizing procedures. New training tools and resources will be available free each week. They include activities, posters, infographics and videos. Themes for each week are:

  • Week 1: Viruses – Know The Basics
  • Week 2: Norovirus
  • Week 3: Hepatitis A
  • Week 4: Stop The Spread
  • Week 5: Keep Your Guests Safe

The NRA created National Food Safety Month in 1994 to heighten awareness about the importance of food safety education. SCA, the manufacturer of Tork professional hygiene products, has sponsored National Food Safety Month for six years. Tork is committed to ensuring the restaurant industry and its customers have access to both food safety education and hygiene product solutions.

“We work diligently to promote best practices in restaurants and foodservice venues, helping our customers to understand the essential role hygiene plays in food safety and healthy environments for our industry’s employees and patrons.” said Suzanne Cohen, marketing director, SCA Americas.
