A Look Back at RFMA 2020 Tracy Tomson’s Final Farewell

While at the Restaurant Facilities Management Association’s annual summit, we had the chance to interview facilities management extraordinaire Tracy Tomson. This was a rare opportunity, as this will be Tomson’s last year serving as RFMA’s Executive Director and CEO.

With the belief that those who share a job title could begin to lean on and learn from one another, the Restaurant Facilities Management Association was born. Throughout the years, RFMA has served many organizations in both business and charity. They educate, certify, and provide a community for those in the restaurant facilities management industry. Their organization has grown to be a well-established and trusted certifying body through its efforts to uphold a high standard of education and professionalism.

RFMA also takes the time to support charities that impact their community. Every year, a shelter or kitchen that serves vulnerable populations is selected to have its facilities remodeled. RFMA comes in and completely changes things so that each organization can better reach and serve its community. Since the beginning of this tradition in 2011, the Restaurant Facilities Management Association has been able to serve 10 different organizations from across the country in this way.

At the close of our time with Tomson, we discussed her exit from the lead role as Executive Director and CEO of RFMA. After many years of tireless work, Tracy Tomson has chosen to retire. She has high hopes for the continuation of RFMA and remarked, “I think I was maybe the right person at the right time and took us to where we are now, but it’s going to take someone else to take us someplace else.” While RFMA will always look back fondly on the foundation Tomson laid, they now look forward to new innovations and adaptations that will keep them on the cutting edge in years to come.
